“If I can’t shake their hand, I can’t trust them”, that’s how many people used to think. However, this mentality is changing for the better. Many experts in a wide range of industries are seeing a major turn from businesses who already adopted remote work to start taking advantage of nearshore talent onboarding, which is presenting a spike in demand after the financial effects of the pandemic. But why? Biosecurity restrictions forced businesses to do the greatest labor modality shift in modern history, working from home. A whopping 51% of employed Americans transitioned to working remotely. Companies across all industries were forced to see how well their employees would perform while doing their jobs outside the office and, to their surprise, in many cases they did even better. However, even harder changes hit when the sanitary conditions worsened and the absolute lockdowns began, changes that led us to where we are now.

Every team working toward a common goal needs a central, visionary voice to give group members direction. With so many new and growing companies in the software industry, we need more leaders at all levels in the decision-making process, within each company. Although many types of leadership can be applied in this industry, today we are going to talk about the 3 leadership styles that can be applied to the software development environment: Democratic, Authoritarian, and Charismatic. There are many more, including transactional leadership and autocratic leadership. So I must note that, although I’ll describe only some of the most relevant types of leadership, it’s rare for a person or company to have the characteristics of just one but generally combines several of them.
