In 2026, US companies pay a median of $8,200 a month (about $98,000 a year) for a full-time nearshore software engineer from Latin America through BEON.tech’s staff augmentation model, all-inclusive. Rates range from $6,000 to $9,000 a month depending on role and experience, and the middle half of quotes falls between $7,200 and $9,200 a month. That is roughly half the fully loaded cost of a US developer, estimated at about $16,200 a month. Figures come from 362 rates quoted to US clients between October 2024 and September 2026.

Key findings

  • The median monthly cost is $8,200 across Latin America, and $8,100–$8,800 in the four largest markets.
  • Argentina has the highest median in our data ($8,800 a month); Mexico and Brazil sit near $8,100–$8,200.
  • Engineering rates start at $6,000 a month (QA automation, Angular, .NET/PHP) and reach $9,000 (blockchain); tech leads and staff engineers go up to $10,000.
  • A US software developer earns a median $135,980 a year before benefits; fully loaded, closer to $194,000.

All roles are senior engineers. Where an engineer lands in the range depends on years of experience, depth in the stack and scope of ownership. Role figures are BEON.tech’s standard 2026 monthly rates for full-time engineers.

For stack-specific breakdowns, see how much it costs to hire a React developer, full stack developer salaries in LATAM vs. the US, or how to hire a DevOps engineer from Latin America.

What is included in the monthly cost

Recruitment and vetting, payroll and compliance in the engineer’s country, medical insurance, paid time off and national holidays, a new MacBook Pro, an internet stipend and a co-working allowance, free replacement, reskilling and AI tooling (Claude Code, Codex), and a dedicated Talent Experience Manager focused on retention. There are no upfront recruitment fees.

LATAM vs. US: what you actually save

Monthly costAbout $8,200About $16,200 fully loaded
Time zone difference with US teams0–3 hoursNone

The US wage is the May 2025 median from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, which projects 10% employment growth for software developers from 2025 to 2035. The fully loaded figure assumes wages are 70% of total compensation, as reported by the BLS Employer Costs for Employee Compensation survey (June 2026). Working hours that overlap with US teams also reduce communication friction.

What drives the cost

  • Role and stack: AI, ML, DevOps, Ruby on Rails and blockchain command the highest rates; QA automation, Angular and .NET/PHP the lowest.
  • Experience: the top of each role’s range goes to engineers who own systems end-to-end; technical leadership roles (tech leads, architects, staff engineers) run $7,900–$10,000 a month.
  • Country: differences between the four largest markets are smaller than most guides suggest (under 10% at the median).
  • Hiring model: staff augmentation bundles employment, compliance and retention; an Employer of Record or direct contractor looks cheaper per month but adds fees, benefits and management time. Compare engagement models, staff augmentation vs. direct hire and project-based software development outsourcing, or read how to hire Latin American developers.

How we calculated this

We analyzed 362 full-time monthly rates BEON.tech quoted to US clients for LATAM software engineers between October 2024 and September 2026, excluding promotional listings and data-entry errors. We report the median and the interquartile range (25th–75th percentile). Countries with fewer than 30 quotes are marked indicative, and countries with fewer than 15 are not shown. US figures come from the BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook (May 2025) and the BLS Employer Costs for Employee Compensation release (June 2026). Next update: March 2027.

Hourly rates published by outsourcing firms measure something different; see software developer hourly rates by country. To compare providers, see our list of nearshore software staffing agencies and our guide to nearshore outsourcing.

FAQ

How much does a senior software engineer cost in Latin America?
$6,000–$9,000 a month all-inclusive through BEON.tech, depending on role and experience, with a median quote of $8,200 (about $98,000 a year).
Is it cheaper to hire developers in Latin America than in the US?
Yes. At the median, a LATAM engineer costs about half the fully loaded cost of a US developer, with 0–3 hours of time zone difference.
Which Latin American country is cheapest for hiring developers?
Among the four largest markets, Mexico and Brazil have the lowest medians ($8,100–$8,200 a month) and Argentina the highest ($8,800). The gap is under 10%, so role and experience matter more than country.
What does the monthly rate include?
Recruitment, payroll, compliance, medical insurance, paid time off, equipment, replacement and retention support. There are no upfront fees.
